9 Tips for smoother skin

Pimples, dark marks and dry skin can leave you frustrated and unconfident. And you may be relying on makeup to cover up and give your skin a healthy glow. But there are other ways to make your skin look radiant and fresh, such as drinking plenty of water and staying out of the sun. If you take care of your skin on a daily basis, you’ll get smoother, clearer skin. If you want flawless skin, you need to make looking after your skin a priority.

Here are key ways to leave your skin looking smoother.

Sun damage

Lazy summer days call for spending endless hours in the sun. But how much damage are you causing to your skin? You may not see the damage immediately, but down the line you might see the bad effects that it has on your skin.

The sun can damage your skin and cause it to age quickly. The more exposure you have to the sun, the more harm there’ll be. That’s why, when you’re in the sun, you need to protect your skin by putting on sunscreen. If it’s possible, stay away from direct sunlight between 10am and 4pm.

If you’re going to be in the sun all day, wear a hat and sunscreen in order to avoid being sunburned. Sunscreen doesn’t do 100% of the work and protective clothing should be worn. If you want to look youthful, make sure you spend less time in the sun’s rays. The sun can cause your skin to age prematurely.

Hydrate your skin

You know what they say, ‘Glowing skin is always in.’ Drinking water can improve the colour of our skin and cause it to glow. We all know that water is essential for our bodies. Without enough water in the body, our skin becomes dry and flaky. Drink lots of water and you’ll look radiant.

Don’t sleep with your makeup on

You may be tired from a night out or you’ve had a busy day at work and the last thing you want to do is take off your make-up. A few years down the line you’ll regret being lazy. Make-up has chemicals that are harmful to your skin. Some people end up having breakouts because makeup clogs pores and doesn’t give your skin the opportunity to breathe. Sleeping with makeup on can also contribute to developing wrinkles early. When you go to bed with makeup on, you affect the renewal process that’s supposed to happen to your skin while you sleep.

Want longer, thicker lashes? Well, don’t sleep with makeup on. Sleeping with makeup can cause irritation and eye infections and also contribute to your lashes falling out.

Also, try not wearing makeup one day of the week to give your skin a break and give it room to breathe.

Makeup brushes

You need to ensure you clean your brushes regularly. If you don’t you’ll expose your face to bacteria, dirt and grime that could be left on the brush. If you don’t wash it often you could end up with breakouts. Just rinse your brush with warm water. And add water and shampoo to wash your brush thoroughly.

Alcohol

Alcohol has a negative effect on our skin, it dehydrates it and causes the skin to age prematurely.

Skin products

Moisturise your skin daily. The cream we use traps the water in our skin after we wash it. And you should also avoid using products on the skin that sting the skin, it could be an indication that the skin is irritated. Diet

What we eat has an impact on our skin. A poor diet affects people differently. In others, the effects are more detrimental than others. It all depends on your skin type. What you put into your body is what you’ll get out. Don’t fill your body with junk food. There are certain types of food that could make us look way older than we actually are. Smoothies and sugary foods are bad for our skin.  

Moisturise your skin

Dermatologist

If all else fails and your skin continues to breakout, or you have patches and dark marks all over your face that you can’t get rid of. It may be time to visit a dermatologist. They could give you an indication of what the cause is. It could be your diet or just that your skin is dehydrated.
