When Hollywood celebs do something, they don’t do it half-way. They go all out! Especially when it comes to popping the big question. After all, they can’t be showed up by the next Hollywood couple who decide to get engaged. Heavens no!
Take Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey’s engagement for instance. Nick proposed not once, but twice.
Two times, just to be sure
Nick somehow got someone who wields a lot of power in New York to light up the Empire State Building in pink and purple, Mariah’s favourite colours.
With the Empire State Building aglow, Nick took Mariah to the rooftop of her apartment. Here he proposed with a candy ring amidst a sea of more pink and purple.
Obviously the biggest diva in show business would not be happy with a candy ring and that’s why Nick put a shiny diamond ring in the candy one.
After a high-pitched yes (we can only imagine this is true), the love birds jetted off for a romantic helicopter ride around the Empire State Building. It is then that Nick popped the question for a second time.
Unfortunately getting a ‘yes’ twice did not stop the Cannon-Carey’s from ending up in Splitsville, as Nick recently filed for divorce.
Another couple that started with a bang but ended with a crash is Seal and Heidi Klum.
When Seal decided that Heidi Klum was the girl for him, he had an igloo built on a glacier. Yes, you read that right. When the time for the proposal came, Seal and Heidi jetted off to the igloo where everything was in place for a romantic night – a bed with sheets, rose petals, candles, snacks and, of course, champagne.
The couple spent the night on the glacier and afterwards Heidi was quoted in the media, saying it was “very, very romantic” and she was “ecstatic” at the proposal.
PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!
That is how Kanye West asked his wife, selfie-queen Kim Kardashian, to marry him. The proposal flashed on a Jumbotron in San Francisco’s AT&T Park, while an orchestra played Lana Del Rey’s ‘Young and Beautiful’.
Kanye was not about to share his moment with hordes of baseball fans, so he rented out the stadium especially for the proposal. He did, however, allow Kim’s family and friends to share the moment.
Not as over the top, but certainly different was Pink and Carey Hart’s engagement.
Pink and Carey Hart had an on-again/off-again relationship, but when Pink decided she’d had enough, she took matters in her own hands. She headed to the track during one of Carey’s motocross races and held up a sign that read “Will You Marry Me?”
Just to make her intentions clear, Pink wrote “I’m serious” on the back. When Carey didn’t pull over after seeing the proposal, she flipped the sign. Carey quit the race straightaway and ran to his girlfriend to accept her proposal.
The jury is out on who will be shopping for engagement rings in 2015, but it’s sure to catch us by surprise. The new trend seems to be doing things in a flash. Just ask Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden or Ludacris and wife Eudoxie.
