Pros and cons of online shopping

August 3, 2017

There are a few inventions in life which stand out like online shopping. You can get just about anything you want at the click of a button. You can search for cars, buy furniture or look for the latest bestseller book. And the best part is you don’t have to take a step outside your house. But, of course, everything should be done in moderation. Or you may just end up buying more shoes than necessary and find yourself broke.

Pros of online shopping

Online shopping has many benefits and one of them is the convenience you get.You might not be able to go outside your house because it’s pouring with rain or maybe you just have a busy schedule. Online shopping allows you to have freedom and flexibility to buy at any time of the day.

When you go to the mall you’re limited to the stores which are inside the building. But when you shop online you’ll have a wide variety of items to select from and you’ll be able to compare prices and brands. You might even find quality brands at discounted prices.

No bags

When you’re shopping in a mall you can end up carrying around tons of bags. This makes it hard to navigate your way through a busy mall with a sore arm. When you’re shopping at home, you’ll be able to avoid this.

Buying online provides you with the freedom to select from a wide variety of products. Whether you’re looking for old records or want to buy panties online, you’ll have many different products to choose from without having to walk around from shop to shop.

Added costs

When you buy at a mall, you run the risk of spending more money than you bargained for. You’ll pay for petrol to travel to the mall and you’ll also have to pay for parking. And you may also find yourself hungry and end up buying food. But when you’re shopping online you’ll get to avoid spending money you haven’t budgeted for.

Less hassle

You’ll get to avoid the hassle of standing in long queues which can be time-consuming when you’re in a hurry. And you also won’t have to deal with shop assistants following you everywhere. You’ll have peace of mind while shopping in the comfort of your own home.

Avoid crowds

You won’t have to deal with the large crowds you find in malls. Shopping in a mall which is busy can be daunting because you’ll have to push past people and avoid stepping on their toes.

There are many promotions, discount and deals which are often offered when you buy items online. You could save a lot of money when buying online instead of in the physical store.

Customer reviews

When you’re shopping online you’ll have the opportunity to see what other customers are saying about the product you want to buy. Negative reviews and complaints could save you from purchasing a product which has defects or problems. Customer reviews give a buyer the insight into whether it’s worth investing in a certain item or not.

Cons of online shopping

Can’t try the item on

You won’t be able to try out the item you buy. When you’re at the store, sometimes clothing can look good on the hanger but when you try it on, it doesn’t look flattering on you or maybe the size doesn’t fit you. And you can put it back on the shelf. But the downside of online shopping is you don’t get the option of fitting on an item to check whether it’s the right fit

False representation

When you buy online, you run the risk of the item you ordered not meeting your expectations. For example, the dress you bought might have looked maroon in the pictures on their website but when it arrives it’s purple.

Shipping costs

Shipping costs could end up costing you more than the item you want to purchase. And in this case, it might not be worth buying the item online. You need to assess if the shipping costs are reasonable and are worth you buying online.

Waiting period

Unfortunately, online buying doesn’t give the buyer instant gratification as there is usually a period of waiting. You might want to order a book which you want to read immediately or buy a dress for a night out with your friends. And the problem is you have to wait a couple of days in order for you to get the item you ordered.

Online scams

There are scammers online waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting buyers. Identity theft is a huge concern for online buyers. And you need to make sure you take the necessary precautions to protect yourself.

Click, click, click. When you’re shopping online it’s easy to go overboard on your purchases. Everything looks good and affordable, and before you know it you’ve bought books, shoes and bags. If you’re not disciplined you may end up buying more than you actually bargained for.

Online shopping has provided many people with the flexibility and convenience to shop at all hours. And not only that, you can also find bargains which could help you save on costs. If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, than online shopping should come pretty close.
