Safety tips for while you’re out on the road

August 14, 2017

We like to think we’ll always be safe. But there are moments when we’ll find ourselves in dangerous situations. And it’s important that you know how to react in these moments. If you find yourself in a threatening situation, you need to know how to handle it. If you’re stranded on the side of the road while waiting to be towed or walking to find petrol, you need to know how to feel safe.

And if you’re buying a car, like one of the many used Audis for sale, it’s essential that you know what to look out for. So, here are some safety tips for you to keep in mind in those moments.

Buying a car

Whether you’re buying a car from a dealership or from someone you found online, it’s essential that you’re sure of your safety. Be on the lookout for anyone who might try to harm you and also be aware of someone trying to steal from you. It’s unfortunate, but these are often the moments when criminals take advantage of unsuspecting people who were just trying to buy a car.

Keep in touch if you’re feeling scared

If you’re stuck on the side of the road or your car’s broken down on the side of the freeway, you need to keep in touch with a friend. You should tell them where you are and keep them updated. That way, if they don’t hear from you, they’ll know to find some help.

Always keep moving

Whether you’re driving down the road or walking down the street at night time, it’s essential that you keep moving. Standing still or walking slowly can make you a target from a potential attacker. You’ve heard plenty of stories about people skipping red traffic lights at night time. You’ve likely also heard stories about people making their way to police stations when feeling unsure.

Take your keys out before you get to the car

If you’re leaving a restaurant or shopping mall, make sure to have your keys in hand before you get there. That way, you can open the car and get in as soon as possible. Also, be sure to lock the doors the second you get inside your car. Stopping outside your car and taking time to find your keys is only going to make you a target. Your attention will be on finding your keys and not on seeing any potential threat.

Don’t talk to strangers

If you’re alone on a quiet street or deserted parking garage, avoid talking to strangers. If you’re approached by a stranger, make an excuse and carry on walking. You never know who you can trust, and if someone is close enough to talk to you, there are also close enough to grab you. But importantly, do make eye contact as this has been found to dissuade a potential attacker as they know you could identify them if necessary.

Put up a fight

Attackers don’t want to draw attention to themselves. So, if you feel unsafe, make sure to draw attention to yourself. Shout, scream, punch and kick. Do whatever you need to do. Make sure that everyone who’s around you knows exactly what’s going on. And if the potential attacker wants to steal something, your phone or your wallet, hand it over. It’s a good idea to throw it in the opposite direction and run away. They’ll be focused on recovering your phone or wallet that they’ll likely let you get away.

It’s important that you’re always alert and know how to protect yourself in any possibly unsafe situation. You never know what might happen and who you can trust. These tips could help you in dangerous situations.
